When you start your commute each, the last thing on your mind is that you or a loved one will be injured in a truck crash. Unfortunately, we know that incidents with these large vehicles happen and that they can cause serious injuries and even fatalities.
We are learning that a 19-year-old man was killed in a crash on the morning of April 23 after a tractor-trailer rolled over onto his vehicle. Today, we want to discuss this crash. We also want you to know that we are here when you need a Pittsburgh truck collisions lawyer. Let the SMA Law Group get the compensation you deserve.
This Is a Tragic Case
When 19-year-old Noah Lowman left his house on the morning of April 23, he should have made it to nearby Rosedale Technical College where he was a student. However, he never got there.
At around 9 a.m., Lowman was driving along Steubenville Pile at the Crafton Interchange on I-79 when a tractor-trailer overturned onto his vehicle and killed him.
Investigators at the scene say that they think the truck was trying to beat a traffic light when it overturned onto the vehicle that was traveling in the opposite lane. In this case, both drivers had green lights, but the truck was traveling too fast when the driver attempted a left turn onto the ramp.
This crash is still being investigated and the truck driver was taken to the hospital for a blood test, a standard procedure for those with a commercial driver’s license who are involved in a crash.
Truck Crashes Can Be Devastating
While most trucks are safe on the roadway, when they do get into a crash, they can cause serious injuries. It is common for us to see the following in the aftermath of a truck crash:
- Spinal cord injuries (with possible paralysis)
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Internal organ damage/internal bleeding
- Broken or dislocated bones
- Severe lacerations or amputations
In many cases, truck driver errors or vehicle failure is to blame. Truck drivers should always follow all traffic laws and never drive recklessly. Under no circumstances should a driver be impaired by drugs or alcohol or be distracted by their phones or other devices while operating.
In the story above, we know the incident likely would never have happened if the driver had not recklessly tried to beat a traffic light.
