We have learned that an investigation is ongoing into a man who may have been drunk at the time of an accident that killed 33-year-old Steven Prazenica on Frankstown Road recently. Police say that Prazenica was in his Nissan SUV when he was hit head-on by a 48-year-old man in a Dodge pickup truck after the man crossed the center line. Prazenica was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The driver of the truck is still in the hospital but is in stable condition and may be arrested upon the completion of the police investigation.

What Can Happen?
The crash we discussed above, as we can see from the photographs in the story, was severe. This is often the case when it comes to crashes involving alcohol-impaired drivers. Unfortunately, there are far too many vehicle accidents in Pennsylvania each year that are due to driver negligence. During our latest reporting year, we know that there were more than 128,000 total accidents reported. While many of them resulted in only property damage or minor injuries, we need to point out that even minor injuries can lead to major medical expenses.
We also often represent clients who have suffered from one or more of the following severe injuries as a result of a vehicle accident:
- Spinal cord injuries
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Broken or dislocated bones
- Severe lacerations or amputations
- And more
These injuries can lead to tremendous medical expenses as well as other hidden costs associated with car crashes (lost income, home and vehicle accommodations, loss of enjoyment of life, etc.).
As we mentioned, driver negligence is often to blame for these injuries.
In the article we brought you above, we heard from Robin Weitz from the MADD Pittsburgh office. She said that there are around 11,000 deaths in the US each year due to DUI crashes.
“We truly believe, especially with today’s ways, that there’s never an excuse to drive drunk. It’s 100 percent preventable,” she said.
Along with drunk drivers, we know that distracted drivers and those who speed are also major contributors to crashes with injuries.
