Getting bitten and injured by a dog can lead to lifelong damage physically and emotionally. The scars that remain are left in the skin of innocent victims and in the hearts of those who love them. Not every dog owner should have a dog. If you aren’t going to be responsible then you shouldn’t have a dog.

Sabrina’s Story

The story of a 7-year-old girl named Sabrina is heartbreaking. Sabrina and her old sister when to a neighbor’s house for a snack. There was a friendship between the girls and the neighbor. At the time the girls went over a snack, the woman neighbor was keeping her boyfriend’s three Rottweilers. These dogs were not constant in the home, so it is unclear if they were comfortable with their surroundings. The one thing we do know was that one of the Rottweilers did not take a liking to Sabrina.

As soon as Sabrina entered the house, one of the Rottweilers leaped onto Sabrina. The dog began to bite Sabrina on the head over and over again. The little girl attempted to wiggle her way free. When she finally did, she ran back to her house, but the dog followed. The dog was about to bite her again when another neighbor came to the rescue. Timothy Guttuso heard the commotion outside and was able to jam a metal pipe in the dog’s jaw allowing Sabrina to run safely back to her house. Police were called and emergency vehicles lined the neighborhood. Sabrina was taken to the hospital where she sustained several head wounds.

The amount of recovery needed for Sabrina was beyond the physical wounds. She needed both physical and emotional therapy. The owners of the Rottweilers did not receive any penalty for what their dog did to Sabrina. There were no arrests or euthanizing of the dangerous animal. In fact, dogs can bite several people on separate occasions and still not criminal recourse is to take on the owners or the dogs.

In dog bite statistics, men are more likely to be bitten than women but children are the most likely to be bitten than adults. Because there are no legal stakes for people with dangerous dogs, filing a civil suit is the best way to seek some kind of justice.
