The Harley-Davidson motorcycle recall

Harley-Davidson has recalled 66,241 motorcycles over concerns about the front brake. The company recently reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that certain touring motorcycles outfitted with ABS braking systems and manufactured between July 1, 2013, and May 7, 2014, could experience front wheel brake lock-ups.

According to reports, the following models are affected:

  • FLHX
  • FLHR
  • FLHP

Harley-Davidson says that the sudden breaking issue can be caused by the front brake line getting trapped between the fuel tank and the frame of the bike, resulting in increased brake line pressure. Harley-Davidson has said that its largest national dealer network would correct the problem at no cost to motorcycle owners.

As of this writing, the company says that it is aware of five crashes related to the defect, resulting in two-rider injuries.

If you or somebody you care about owns any of these Harley-Davidson models, you need to have the issue repaired as quickly as possible. Accidents caused by a front brake lock-up could result in severe injuries to motorcycle riders and passengers. This includes broken and dislocated bones, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord trauma, severe lacerations, internal organ damage or internal bleeding, crush injuries, and more.
