A crash early Nov. 13 left one Lyft driver shaken up.
“The bus just pulled out in front of him, smacked him right in the middle of the bus,” recounted the Lyft driver, who was almost struck in the accident.
The accident happened at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Morewood Avenue in Shadyside. While no charges have been filed in the incident, there seem to be a few things that went wrong. While it may seem obvious that the bus driver was at fault, witnesses say that the car was going very fast, possibly as fast at 65 mph.
At the SMT Legal, we know how dangerous vehicle accidents can be. We see dangers each day on the roadway around us and we often represent clients who have been injured due to other people’s negligence.

The Stats
There were more than 128,000 vehicle accidents during Pennsylvania’s latest reporting year. Out of those, there were:
- 80,612 injuries
- 1,137 fatalities
While we are grateful that most vehicle accident injuries are minor, there were still over 4,000 serious injuries reported. These can include:
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Spinal cord injuries
- Internal organ damage
- Bone damage (broken or dislocated)
- Severe lacerations or amputations
Each of these injuries requires extensive medical care and possibly even surgery for recovery. Often, rehabilitation is necessary. Many people end up with a long-term disability due to car accidents and can never return to work.
Will your insurance cover all of your medical expenses?
What about income if you cannot work?
Why They Happen
The state DOT tells us that there are clear correlations between reckless drivers and crashes. Speeding drivers caused the highest number of accidents (31,051) on our roadways.
They were followed by distracted drivers (15,614) and those who turned improperly (14,004). Drunk drivers were responsible for over 9,000 vehicle accidents and caused 26 percent of all traffic-related fatalities.
We know these negligent drivers are responsible for many major injuries each year and they need to be held accountable for their actions.
